About 40Countdown

I started 40countdown the year before my landmark birthday. The blog takes a look at what it means to be in this phase of life (dare I say middle age). The accomplishments, the contentment, the struggles, the self awareness and the hopes for what the next 40 or 50 years will bring.

Being 40-something makes me realize there are some things I will never accomplish – like being an Olympic gymnast or going to medical school. On a smaller scale, I know that I will never get up a 5 a.m. to work out or give up cheese for Lent. I am not such a strong woman. On the flip side, I have surprised myself with the amazing amount of multi-tasking I can do as a parent, that I really can get up every night at 4 a.m. for nearly a year to comfort or feed a small child, and that I have had several really fascinating careers.

I hope you will find ideas that you identify with, stories that make you laugh, opinions that make you think and (I should say) positions that make you mad, but I don’t really ever want to make people mad because I am a pleaser. Join me as I explore the fabulous forties.

This is going to be great, Kathleen! So glad you are doing this. Happy Birthday and please let me know if you need ‘older’ counsel as I am 42. πŸ™‚

This sounds great. I enjoyed reading your posts. We should meet sometime. I am a Mom, blogger, 40 year old in Raleigh who used to be in advertising. Maybe we could solve the world’s problems…

I really enjoy your posts, and was so thrilled to have a new one to read today! My children are in preschool at SMPDS, and another mom there suggested I read your blog after I launched mine. I do contract PR work for Capstrat, a local integrated communications firm, and I am a former print and television reporter. We are also probably the only family in Raleigh not going to the beach for July 4th, so if you are around next week and want to get coffee or lunch, I would love to meet. Thanks! Kathleen Linder

    Hi, Kathleen!

I’m glad you took time to visit my blog because that’s how I found yours. πŸ™‚

Turning 40 is exciting and liberating on a personal level, at least it was for me. It looks like that’s how it’s going to be for you, too, based on the honesty and humor that shows in your writing. πŸ™‚

    Have a good year ahead!
